Going au naturel…workshop with Olivia Batchelder

Olivia Batchelder was the guest speaker at the San Diego Silk Guild’s Quarterly Meeting. She showed us scarves dyed with natural materials and explained that all this rich color is right at our finger tips…all we need to do is check our produce bins and backyards to find natural dyes. Onion skins, fennel, and cilantro were just a few of the items she used in her demonstration for color and pattern.

This is the YouTube video of the fashion show at the World Eco-Fiber and Textiles Forum in Borneo, Malaysia. All of the fashions shown were dyed using natural dyes and sewn by Oliva Batchelder.

She then led a workshop where all participants dyed eggs using common household plant materials. The results were…eggciting!
